there were many pieces of Thermopolis that attracted me it's truly a playground I love the area small town guy if you're an outdoorsy person this is the spot the minute we walked in it just like everyone was so friendly if you're thinking about a teaching position uh anywhere in the country that this is a place to come when Thermopolis uh reached out um for an interview and I got to learn more about the town um Recreation opportunities outside um and then just the lifestyle plus an amazing School District to work and it was it was a no-brainer I would say the community itself um anyone that's on here it's absolutely beautiful I know my first experience driving through the canyon um was amazing absolutely amazing you look down in the water um you see drift boats going you would see lots lots and lots of fishermen um as well as white water rafting so that was a really neat experience coming from Eastern South Dakota where it's very flat and straight um and then seeing the mountains were wonderful but I think the size of Thermopolis was very attractive um having worked in larger districts I knew that class size was important to me along with what the facilities were like and so Thermopolis Hot Springs County school district has great technology great resources um great mentorship for new teachers so that's what brought me here I came for just the opportunities that were for my family uh great place to raise kids uh All 4 of mine have graduated as Bobcats now and off doing wonderful things because of the great education they got here this was 1 of the first interviews that I got and um came out here for the interview and really I mean I think it was moments after I left the interview that we knew that this was where we needed to be I have a young family so I know they're in good hands let's put it that way I know the teachers they're all here for the kids to do the best job they can do um it's a great Community there's a lot of cool things that we offer I mean there's tons of people outside that are willing to help out partner with our school our teachers our coaches and uh it takes a village there's really nothing we won't try to tackle on behalf of our teachers so some recent examples last year are trades students and our trades classes worked with the maintenance Department to build teacher housing that's affordable right here on our property it's within walking distance and you know that helps uh alleviate 1 of The Fears when you're a new teacher coming to a new community a few years ago during the co uh pandemic uh took on the challenge of building a a great world-class daycare uh for our teachers so they don't have to even leave campus to in order to you know to have access to their to their own children which is important to us and you know right across the hallways a fantastic uh you know Early Childhood Program that they don't they don't even have to go take them to Early Childhood they can walk across the hall and and receive a great early childhood education too but I think our our investment uh on behalf of just recruiting the best uh because we know that the quality of the teachers the number 1 determining Factor on whether students are going to learn or not I think that is 1 of the most exciting things that I have like really fallen in love with this District about is that I I really feel like students are the center of like what we are here to do um with the structures that are in place like we're showing them like we care about this we're making time for you to get the help no matter what the leadership here really values making sure that everybody um is getting every opportunity to be the best educator the best professional that they can be we're a district that's committed and we we spend every Federal dollar that we can on the development of our teachers so that they can actually be the best that they can be that's a I think that's a big strength of Hot Springs 1 is that we're committed to if you want to be a great teacher this is a place you can come and be a great teacher
